Dholera has been identified as a key site for Gujarat's upcoming satellite launchpad, paving the way for space tourism and space-tech innovation under the new SpaceTech Policy. With support from ISRO and In-SPACe, Dholera is set to become a future hub for satellite launches and private space exploration.
Dholera Emerges as Prime Site for Space Launchpad and Space Tourism in Gujarat’s New SpaceTech Push
Gandhinagar: In a landmark move under Gujarat's newly announced SpaceTech Policy, Dholera has been shortlisted as one of the prime locations for a futuristic satellite launchpad—a development that could place the region on the global map for space tourism, satellite launches, and advanced aerospace innovation.
Alongside Kutch, Dholera—already a key component of the Dholera Smart City and a rising hub of technological and industrial development—has been identified by state authorities for establishing a launchpad aimed at facilitating satellite launches, space exploration, and commercial space tourism ventures.
Officials confirmed that the proposed Dholera launchpad will be developed under the close guidance of national space authorities, including ISRO and In-SPACe. In-SPACe, headquartered in Ahmedabad, plays a crucial role in promoting private sector participation in the Indian space sector, and has reportedly expressed strong interest in the Dholera project.
“The state government is committed to making Gujarat a hub for space technology. The Dholera satellite launchpad is an essential step in this journey, and we’re ready to provide comprehensive support—both fiscal and non-fiscal—to attract private and international players,” said a senior official involved in the project.
The proposed launchpad will not only support communication and earth observation satellite launches, but also lay the foundation for space tourism from Dholera, making it one of the first locations in India positioned to offer commercial space travel experiences in the near future.
Dholera’s strategic location, robust infrastructure planning, and proximity to aerospace innovation centers like Ahmedabad make it an ideal choice. The project aligns with the broader goals of the Gujarat SpaceTech Policy, which aims to boost the entire space industry ecosystem—from satellite and payload manufacturing to space-based application design.
As Gujarat takes bold steps towards becoming India’s space-tech frontier, Dholera stands out as a beacon of innovation, promising new opportunities in satellite technology, space tourism, and aerospace R&D.
