Dholera, Gujarat: The development of the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) in the Ahmedabad district is rapidly gaining momentum, as confirmed by Industries Minister Balwantsinh Rajput. Under the ambitious project, the creation of Dholera SIR's Greenfield Industrial Smart City is underway, attracting a substantial investment of ₹35,984.58 crore across various sectors.
Enhanced Connectivity with Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway
Minister Rajput highlighted that the 110 km Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway is set to be completed by June 2025, significantly reducing travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera to just 50 minutes. The expressway, executed by the National Highways Authority of India under the Bharatmala project in EPC mode, is expected to boost connectivity and industrial growth in the region.
Dholera SIR: A Strategic Industrial Hub
Established under the Gujarat Special Investment Region Act, 2009, Dholera SIR spans 22 villages across a vast area of 920 sq. km. The region is planned with a systematic approach, dividing six draft town plans into 27 preliminary town plans, of which 11 are currently under process. Notably, 50% of the land is reserved for infrastructure development and social amenities, while the remaining 50% is returned to the original landholders as a ‘final plot’.
Progress on Dholera International Airport
In addition to industrial and infrastructure development, the Dholera International Airport project is also progressing. The Airport Authority of India has floated tenders for site development, the runway, the taxiway, and other essential infrastructure. Construction work on the terminal building and the ATC building is actively underway.
